Showcase Showdown tonight in college basketball hoops feast

By Sports Instigator, Rich Winter

If you're even a slight college basketball or NBA fan, turn on the tube tonight, because next year's NBA first round draft picks will be taking center stage tonight.

I'm so fired up, I think its gonna be tough to stay focused at work today with the mere thought that I'm getting a first-hand look at what be the top three or four players in next year's NBA draft in some epic match-ups.

No. 2 Michigan State vs. No. 1 Kentucky - Way to go schedule makers...Kentucky was rock solid in their first two games despite the diaper dandies that are floating around all over the court. 6-foot-9 power forward Julian Randle has been the best player in college basketball through two games and any NBA team looking to start their franchise with a Karl Malone type bruiser would be lucky to have this guy. I'm surprised Tom Izzo's team is ranked so high so early in the season. He usually has one hell of a schedule and gets beat early, but rounds into shape just in time for March madness. The Spartans could have trouble containing Randle inside but Spartie has a better point guard in Keith Appling who should get the best of Kentucky frosh Andrew Harrison.

A must see, and it gets going at 6:30 p.m. central time.

Ahh, No. 5 Kansas vs. No. 4 Duke. 8:30 p.m. central time. Ya know, I cheer for Duke quite a bit, mostly because my college basketball friends, Hammer and Dynasty, cheer for UNC and Kansas. (Sorry Dynasty, you don't get a mention here because your team wasn't good enough to be in this showcase showdown). Much has been made of NBA teams taking to get Kansas Freshman Andrew Wiggins, the proverbial choice to be the No. 1 pick in next year's NBA draft. But, Jabari Paker exploded for 22 points in his collegiate opener and suddenly Duke looks like the better team. Wiggins is changing from playing the No. 4 spot in high school to the No. 3 in college. He looks tentative at times, not sure if he should take over or let someone else do the taking over. Duke might be the best perimeter team in the country, but Kansas has some big people, Perry Ellis, Joel Embiid and Tarik Black, that could pose some matchup problems for a less than physical Duke team.

Instigator predictions - Kentucky big over Michigan State, let's say 77-64

(I ain't picking Kansas, Hammer) - Duke 81 - Kansas 77
