'Hoos Shut Out Hokies to Complete Unbeaten Regular Season
Amber Fry's early goal was all the Virginia women's soccer team needed Thursday night, as the top-ranked Cavaliers completed a perfect regular season with a 2-0 win over No. 5 Virginia Tech.
Fry's goal came in the ninth minute, and Makenzy Doniak added her team-best 14th goal of the season in the game's closing seconds at Klöckner Stadium. The Cavaliers finished the regular season 19-0, 13-0 in the ACC -- the first unbeaten regular season in program history.
UVa is the first women's soccer program to finish the regular season undefeated since Stanford in 2009. The ACC's last team to go without a loss or tie in the regular season was North Carolina in 2003.
The Cavaliers also clinched the program's first-ever ACC regular season title with the victory. UVa will host Maryland in the conference quarterfinals on Sunday afternoon.
The Hokies fall to 14-3-2 with the loss. UVa improved to 4-0 against top-five opponents with Thursday's win.
