Windows Phone May Have the Edge Over iOS 7 for Enterprise, Report Says

With BlackBerry quickly losing its hold on even the enterprise business, Apple, Google and Microsoft are all eyeing that lucrative mobile market, and according to ABI Research Windows Phone may have an edge over the competition. While Android still dominates the general market, ABI senior analyst Jason McNicol notes that iOS 7 has failed to live up the hype it received in the enterprise community.
'Despite the positive market buzz, iOS 7 enterprise features are unlikely to increase its enterprise presence,' McNicol says. 'Plenty of market opportunity remains, especially for a company like Microsoft.'
Apple's iOS 7 was expected to introduce a number of enterprise-specific features, including 'advanced VPP control, open-in management, managed applications, single sign-on capability, per app VPN, and enhanced EMM/MDM vendor functionality,' but ultimately fell short of Cupertino's history of innovation, offering limited functionality, McNicol claims.
ABI predicts that while iPhone market share will hold steady at 18 percent, Windows Phone will grow to six percent by 2018. The report also notes that Microsoft's mobile platform has seen particular success in Europe, and predicts that the OS will show strong growth in the business sector if it can succeed in offering enterprise features where Apple fell short. Since Microsoft has a long history in the enterprise space, we think it definitely has a chance to be a huge contender, particularly in firms where 'bring your own device' still isn't an option.
