The cast of 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' gathered Saturday night at the Javits Center to attend the movie's premiere - and to greet hundreds of fans, many in X-Men costumes, who'd gathered in the cavernous space.

Hugh Jackman, who plays the self-healing hero Wolverine, was sporting a bandage on his nose after his second skin-cancer removal but seemed nonchalant about it.

'It's good, it's fine,' he told Confidenti@l. 'We got it taken out a couple of days ago now, got the stitches. I'm lucky. You've got to get checked, got to wear sunscreen. I'm just grateful that it was spotted.'

The Aussie admitted he wasn't entirely thrilled about unsheathing his claws again.

'A little bit of me complains about the 4 a.m. wakeup calls, but that's just because I'm an actor and I complain,' he said. 'Really, I love it and I'm enjoying it more than ever.'

This is Jackman's seventh turn as Wolverine, and he has a theory on the character's popularity.

'He's kind of Mad Max and Dirty Harry all rolled into one,' he said. 'He's a pretty classic archetype for Hollywood. He marches to the beat of his own drum - he's part of the team but he's also pretty bad-ass, as they say here.'

Jennifer Lawrence thrilled fans by signing autographs and posing for selfies with them before heading over to the paparazzi. Trying to explain the mania surrounding the movie, the 23-year-old told us:

'It's a combination of both casts - the original, which is just incredible, and the new cast, which is better. Just kidding! And we're brought together. I think that's really exciting. I mean, I got excited.'

Hunky Michael Fassbender has a soft spot for his character, the malevolent Magneto, because 'he's a villain who's sympathetic. He doesn't do any of this for his own personal gain but for what he believes to be the survival of his race.'

Fassbinder displayed his sense of humor when a French TV crew repeatedly asked him about working with French actor Omar Sy, who plays Bishop. When Fassbender's explanation that they had no scenes together failed to stop the questions, he exclaimed, 'Okay I'll lie to you. He was great to work with!'

Scotland's James McAvoy refused to say whether he'll vote yea or nay in September's referendum on Scottish independence from the U.K. He told Confidenti@l: 'I am keeping my opinion to myself. I'm a professional liar. You don't want to know what I'm thinking.'

And Evan Jonigkeit, who plays Toad, didn't feel the need to prep for the role by binge-watching National Geographic specials on amphibians. As a kid, he spent days chasing frogs in a marsh near his home.

He admitted that Toad's long tongue might be a hit with the ladies, but his skin would be a minus. 'He's really cool, but he's not the prettiest man in the world,' he told us.

After the screening, the cast partied at SIR Stage 37.
