Lights, camera, action: let TIFF begin!
Hollywood is coming to Toronto the next week and a half.
The Toronto International Film Festival kicks off today and will light up the city for the next 10 days.
Something new this year is a street festival that will close off King St, from Peter St to University Ave, until Monday morning.
The festival will feature musical performances, art installations, and even board games. It will also give more room for the screaming fans who will line the red carpets along Roy Thomson Hall and the Princess of Wales Theatre.
As for which stars will be in town this year, publicist Natasha Koifman with NKPR says this year is the 'era of cool.'
Some of the confirmed talent includes Jennifer Aniston, Steve Carrell, Robert Pattinson, John Cusack, Robert Downey Jr, Bill Murray and Tina Fey.
'It's not the year where you have huge A-listers,' Koifman says. 'You don't have (George) Clooney. You don't have (Brad) Pitt. You don't have (Angelina) Jolie.'
Another difference this year is that the festival has spread out the red carpets with big names across the 10 days, rather than placing most of them on the opening weekend. That means there will be less of a surge the first few days, but the buzz will last longer.
What Koifman is most looking forward to during TIFF 2014 is not a film or a star, but a venue -- Montecito, which opened up earlier this year on Adelaide St, just north of the Bell Lightbox.
'I've been hearing about the restaurant everywhere,' she says. 'It's kind of cool that (filmmaker) Ivan Reitman opened it up... There's definitely a lot of buzz about Montecito.'
