Astros to name AJ Hinch manager

The Houston Astros, seeking stability with their field staff after some recent bad fits with their front office, have hired A.J. Hinch as their new manager, according to multiple reports.

Hinch, who produced an 89-123 record in parts of two seasons with the Arizona Diamondbacks, replaces Bo Porter, who was fired Sept. 1 after less than two seasons with the Astros.

Counting the stint of interim managers Tom Lawless and Tony DeFrancesco, the Astros in 2015 will trot out their fifth field manager in the four seasons of general manager Jeff Luhnow.

The Houston Chronicle first reported that the Astros have hired Hinch. The team scheduled a news conference for a significant announcement at 6:30 p.m. ET.

Hinch managed the Diamondbacks in 2009-2010.
