We don't know about you, but we can't think of anything we expected less than what happened on last night's Season 10 premiere of ''. (Those of you who haven't had a chance to watch should stop reading now.)

In a shocking premiere move, Lance Sweets (John Francis Daley) was savagely beaten before dying in the arms of Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz) while Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel) looked on helplessly.

The death of Sweets was more practical than anything, as Daley's burgeoning direction career would likely keep him away from the set for months at a time - something unacceptable for a main character.

The practicality of the decision didn't make the scene any less difficult to watch - or film, according to the actor.

Daley spoke to about his character's unexpected death, revealing that he 'cried like a baby' after shooting the scene. He wasn't the only one affected, either.

'I remember how it had choked up David, shooting that scene, and Emily,' said Daley. 'They were both pretty emotional during that time. Most of my 20s were spent on that show and, fortunately, it's an incredible family. The last day was sad and surreal for me.'

Making Sweets' death even more tragic is the child he leaves behind - his on-again, off-again girlfriend Daisy (Carla Gallo) was revealed to be pregnant in the premiere. According to executive producer Stephen Nathan, Daisy's pregnancy will help keep Sweets' memory alive and 'color the rest of the season.'
