Women's group to fly #GoodellMustGo banner at Bucs
Embattled NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell continues to face criticism for his bungling of the Ray Rice domestic-violence case and on Sunday, the National women's advocacy group UltraViolet will fly a #GoodellMustGo banner over the the Georgia Dome prior to the Buccaneers- Falcons game.
'Roger Goodell may have taken a crisis communications 101 class over the weekend, but his actions are simply too little too late,' UltraViolet co-founder Nita Chaudhary said in a statement.
'Goodell must resign, and the NFL needs to seriously step up its commitment to ending violence against women within the league. This isn't just an NFL problem, it's an America problem: 1 in 4 women experience domestic violence in their lifetime, and we simply cannot afford to have an NFL commissioner who doesn't take this issue seriously.
'We don't care if you are a highly paid NFL player or a high-school football player: domestic violence is never ok.'
Goodell hasn't made a public appearance since an interview with CBS This Morning eight days ago when he denied having seen the surveillance video showing Rice punching his future wife in the face and knocking her unconscious -- until it was released to the world by TMZ.
In the week since, various reports have contradicted what Goodell knew and when he knew it.
Meanwhile, the NFL continues to face scrutiny. Over the weekend, Adrian Peterson was indicted on charges of 'reckless or negligent injury to a child,' and on Wednesday he was placed on the Vikings' Exempt/Commissioner's Permission list -- but only after a backlash from fans and media, and threats from sponsors.
