Actress Skye McCole Bartusiak may have been huffing - inhaling a chemical-soaked rag over the face or mouth as a way of getting high - when she died from an accidental overdose, TMZ reported.
Bartusiak, best known for her role as Mel Gibson's 7-year-old daughter in the 2000 film 'The Patriot' and 'The Cider House Rules' in 1999, was found dead in her Houston, Texas, home on July 19. She was 21.
The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences released the cause of death, calling it an overdose from the combined toxic cocktail of the pain killer hydrocodone, or Vicodin, along with the refrigerant difluoroethane and the muscle relaxer carisoprodol, according to TMZ.
