HP's new PC replaces keyboard and mouse with projector and touch mat

HP's latest effort to revitalise the PC market has landed in the form of Sprout, a new Windows desktop computer with a built-in projector and touch mat.

What makes the machine different from others is that the projector and touch mat actually replace the keyboard and mouse.

This is made possible through an HD DLP projector with a 14.6-megapixel Intel RealSense 3D camera and an LED lamp, which is placed on top of the all-in-one, 23-inch diagonal screen.

Coupled with the mat, users can also get creative by sketching with their hands or a stylus. Dragging elements from the touch screen to the mat projects an identical image, which you can edit away with your fingertips.

However, the system doesn't just act as a traditional input experience - it can scan 2D and 3D objects too. This means you can quickly scan anything and get even more creative.

It's also possible to scan pages from a book and have the entire text placed into a Word document or use the mat to play games.

The HP Sprout uses Windows 8.1 with an Intel i7 processor and features 1TB of storage.

It is currently on sale in the US for $1899.99 (£1178.27), while a UK release is yet to be announced.
