Eye on Football Podcast: What happened to Tom Brady and the Pats?

There may be no quick fixes for Tom Brady and the Patriots. (USATSI)

The 2014 Patriots are a lot like Ed, the poor, faceless -- and ultimately, dead -- chap from Fletch, in that their whole operation seemed to collapse just like that, when in reality, this has been a long time coming. (Don't remember Ed? Watch this for a quick reminder.)

So now the question is: Where do the Patriots go from here? Rodney Harrison wasn't kidding: Tom Brady looks legitimately scared and for good reason. The offensive line is in shambles, there's no one outside of Julian Edelman who Brady feels confident in throwing to ( Rob Gronkowski's still not 100 percent after offseason knee surgery), and the defense -- which we figured to return to the mid-2000s form that helped win Super Bowls -- is instead suddenly one of the worst units in the league.

The good news: The Pats play in the AFC East and we really can't see the Bills, Jets or Dolphins making a sustatined move. The bad news: New England still isn't a very good football team and a lot of the blame rests with coach Bill Belichick, who also is responsible for putting this roster together.

On the latest Eye on Football Podcast, Will Brinson and Ryan Wilson look back at Belichick's drafts (highlights include Chad Jackson, Terrence Wheatley and Ras-I Dowling!), discuss Tom Brady's struggles, and try to figure out what, if anything, can be done about it.

They also talk about the suddenly surging Chiefs, the always awful Raiders, and look ahead to Thursday night's Vikings- Packers game in the embedded player above.
