Islanders, League's Last Unbeaten Team, Fall at Pittsburgh
Evgeni Malkin and Patric Hornqvist scored power-play goals 55 seconds apart in the second period, and the Pittsburgh Penguins handed the visiting Islanders their first loss of the season, 3-1, on Saturday night.
The Islanders (4-1) had been the N.H.L.'s last unbeaten team.
Hornqvist, who assisted on Malkin's goal, added an empty-net tally with 1 minute 20 seconds left to seal the Penguins' win. Sidney Crosby, the Pittsburgh captain, had two assists, including the 500th of his career.
Marc-Andre Fleury made 30 saves in the win.
Thomas Hickey staked the Islanders to a 1-0 lead in the first period, but the team failed to post its first 5-0 start. Jaroslav Halak stopped 35 shots.
SHARKS 4, DEVILS 2 Logan Couture had a goal and two assists and Antti Niemi made 35 saves as San Jose kept up its strong start to the season with a road win over Devils.
Joe Pavelski added a goal and an assist, and Joe Thornton sealed the game with an empty-net goal - his 1,200th N.H.L. point - as the Sharks won for the fourth time in five games. They have picked up 9 of 10 points, losing only in a shootout to the Islanders.
Cory Schneider made 28 saves for the Devils in their home opener, including a glove stop on a penalty shot by Tommy Wingels with 3:44 to play and New Jersey down by a goal.

BRUINS 4, SABRES 0 Niklas Svedberg made 32 saves in his first N.H.L. shutout, as Boston won at Buffalo.
It was just the third career start for Svedberg, who replaced Tuukka Rask in the third period of Boston's loss on Thursday at Montreal.
Dougie Hamilton, Zdeno Chara, Torey Krug and Carl Soderberg scored for the Bruins (3-4). All four goals came at even strength, and three were scored against Buffalo's top line.
The Sabres' Jhonas Enroth made 31 saves.
