Sixers Building Support To Block Lottery Reform
With the NBA expected to vote tomorrow on a potential reform to the league's lottery system, the Philadelphia 76ers are trying to build some last minute support to block the change.
Currently, the Sixers reportedly have support from both the Milwaukee Bucks and Oklahoma City Thunder. They would need the additional support of five other teams in order to stop the league's effort.
I find the Thunder's support a little interesting. Several months ago, the Sixers made what considered a puzzling trade with the Thunder, acquiring Hasheem Thabeet and then waiving him right away with no other compensation. The Sixers were essentially doing OKC a favor by wiping Thabeet off of their books without cost, and perhaps the Thunder's support on this issue is their way of returning the favor. Of course, its all for not unless five more teams can be rallied to the cause before the vote.
Personally, I'm not opposed to the reform. I think in the long run it would benefit the league, but I would certainly prefer if such a change were avoided for at least another year with the Sixers set to tank another season in their quest to rebuild their tattered franchise.
