South Carolina dials up gutsy onside kick against Auburn
South Carolina's offense came to play against Auburn. The defense? Not as much. With the Gamecocks and Tigers trading scores in the second half and deadlocked at 35 apiece, Steve Spurrier needed to come up with an extra possession -- and he knew he wasn't likely to get one from his defense. So following Dylan Thompson's 10-yard touchdown strike to Nick Jones, the Head Ball Coach dialed up an onside kick.
Note how Skai Moore waits for the ball to cross the 45 before picking it up. Had he touched it any sooner, the ball would have been awarded to Auburn. Gus Malzahn challenged the call, but the ruling on the field was confirmed.
