Tempers Heat Up; So Do Royals' Bats
The Kansas City Royals evened the World Series at one game apiece Wednesday night with a 7-2 win over the San Francisco Giants.
The Giants started the game with a lead-off home run by Gregor Blanco off a 98 mile-an-hour pitch by the Royals' hard-throwing rookie starter, Yordano Ventura. The teams traded one-run innings until, with the score tied, 2-2, in the sixth, the Royals broke open the game.
San Francisco's starter, Jake Peavy, allowed two base-runners, then was pulled for Jean Machi. The first batter he faced, Billy Butler, lashed his second run-scoring single of the game to give the Royals the lead. Two relievers later, Hunter Strickland gave up a two-run double to Salvador Perez and a two-run homer to Omar Infante, and the Royals were in control.
The series now moves to San Francisco for Games Three to Five on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
