Three-time UFC title challenger Urijah Faber will fight Francisco Rivera at UFC 181 on Dec. 6 in Las Vegas.

UFC officials announced the bantamweight contest on Wednesday. The UFC 181 pay-per-view event will take place at Mandalay Bay Events Center.

Faber (31-7) recorded a third-round submission win over Alex Caceres at UFC 175 in July. He was then booked to a fight against Massanori Kanehara at a UFC Fight Night on Sept. 20, but was forced to withdraw when a rib injury did not heal in time.

A former WEC featherweight champion, Faber fought Renan Barao for the UFC bantamweight title in February, losing via TKO in the first round. He is 7-3 overall in the Octagon, with all three losses coming in title fights.

ESPN.com ranks Faber, 35, the No. 4 bantamweight in the world.

Rivera (10-3) will look to rebound from a unanimous decision loss to Takeya Mizugaki at UFC 173 in May. It was the California-based fighter's first loss since June 2011.

A welterweight title fight between Johny Hendricks and Robbie Lawler is scheduled to headline UFC 181.
