World Series 2014: Kansas City Royals Beat San Francisco Giants in Game 3
The Kansas City Royals took a two-games-to-one lead in the World Series on Friday night with a 3-2 win over the Giants in San Francisco.
The Royals manufactured a run in the first inning when leadoff man Alcides Escobar doubled, then advanced to third and scored on consecutive groundouts.
Starting pitchers Jeremy Guthrie of Kansas City and Tim Hudson of San Francisco dominated the middle innings, at one point retiring 19 consecutive batters between them.
But the Royals managed to add to their slender lead in the sixth, starting with another Escobar hit. Alex Gordon, 0-for-9 previously in the Series, followed with a run-scoring double, then was knocked home by Eric Hosmer to make the game 3-0.
The Giants got two runs back in the bottom of the inning when Michael Morse had a pinch hit R.B.I. double and later scored on a groundout.
But when Royals Manager Ned Yost turned the game over to his strong bullpen, it duly shut down San Francisco and locked up the Royals' win.
Games 4 and 5 are Saturday and Sunday night in San Francisco.
