Long live the CW's new freshman dramas!
The Originals, Reign and The Tomorrow People were all officially picked up for full seasons by the CW, the network announced on Monday. ('Finally,' said all the fanbases of all three shows in unison.)
'We're excited about the creative momentum the producers have established for all three of our new series, and now our fans will have the chance to see the full stories unfold for them this season,' the CW's president Mark Pedowitz said in a statement. 'With the additional episodes ordered, plus two new dramas and new reality for midseason, we'll be able to continue our commitment to adding more original programming all year long.'

Pedowitz continued, 'In just a few seasons, we have built a much stronger primetime schedule. Our on-air ratings are up year-to-year, and our digital viewing continues to grow exponentially.'
Including seven-day DVR growth, The Tomorrow People, which comes from Greg Berlanti and Julie Plec, is averaging 2.2 million viewers and a 0.9 rating in the adults 18-49 demo, while Reign, which tells the story of Mary Queen of Scots ( Adelaide Kane), is bringing in a 0.8 rating and 1.8 million viewers.
A spinoff of the network's highly successful drama The Vampire Diaries, The Originals' latest episode's ratings matched the series' best-yet, attracting 3.3 million viewers (when you factor in Live + 3 Day DVR viewing) and a 1.1 ratings in the all-important adults 18-49 demo.

And though the network made them sweat it out a bit, EPs Julie Plec (she's a busy woman!) and Michael Narducci were never planning on wrapping up their story in the first 13.
'When we showed up in June, we said this is going to be a 22-episode season and we may go for six seasons...nobody shows up to work thinking, 'This is going to be a disaster,'' Narducci said. 'We believed we had magic in a bottle coming out of Julie's brain and we said let's make everything we can out of this and let's have fun and play with these characters and let's go to town. There was never any pitch anyone ever had where in episode 13 Hayley has the baby. That's crazy!'
And Plec promises there will be resolution by the end of season one, saying they will be 'cleaning off the stage and setting the table for the next one.'
Star-Crossed and The 100 are set to debut at midseason for the network.
