Wade Phillips named interim coach

HOUSTON -- The Houston Texans have named defensive coordinator Wade Phillips interim head coach while Gary Kubiak recovers from a transient ischemic attack he suffered this past weekend.
Phillips took over Houston's head-coaching duties after Kubiak collapsed while leaving the field at halftime of Sunday's loss to the Indianapolis Colts.
Kubiak said in a statement Tuesday that he will make a full recovery but isn't sure when he will return to work.
Phillips, 66, has coached on some level since 1969. He has been a head coach for the Denver Broncos, Buffalo Bills and most recently with the Dallas Cowboys, where he spent three and a half seasons.
Phillips was fired during the 2010 season and took over as Texans defensive coordinator at the start of the 2011 season.
When he came to Houston, Phillips orchestrated one of the most dramatic turnarounds in NFL history with a Texans defense that was one of the worst in the league in 2010.
