Whether it was the sign of a breakdown or the perfect way to gain more media attention, Shia LaBeouf's 'I AM NOT FAMOUS ANYMORE' paper bag has certainly started a trend.

MTV presenter Laura Whitmore shared a picture of herself wearing a Shia-inspired bag on her head, with the word 'cool' replacing 'famous', while unknown actor Mark Harley successfully drew attention to himself by wearing a bag of his own.

The star of The Hungover Games hit the cast party's red carpet on Tuesday, with a brown envelope on his head and the phrase 'I AM NOT AN ATTENTION-SEEKING W***E' written on the front.

They were responding to Shia's choice of attire for the Berlinale 2014 Film Festival premiere of Nymphomaniac, the highly-anticipated ensemble drama from Lars Von Trier.

Film director Eli Roth joked that the actor had copied his family's use of the paper bag at a previous red carpet event as the internet came to life with parodies of the paper bag; giving many users the chance to hone their Photoshop skills to give LaBeouf's various movie posters a once over.

Hellboy star Ron Perlman tweeted a link to a story about the actor, with the message: 'Shia, 4words:in ter ven tion,', while Patrick Schwarzenegger thinks Shia 'is the freaking man'.

However, LaBeouf may well have gotten his inspiration from singer Sia, who featured on the cover of Billboard magazine in November, with a paper bag masking her face and the sentiment that she 'doesn't want to be famous anymore'.

However, LaBeouf has been sharing the same 'I AM NOT FAMOUS ANYMORE' status everyday since January 20, and marks the continuance of the actor's odd behaviour ever since his award-winning film HowardCantour.com was discovered to be an unattributed copy of a graphic novel by Daniel Clowes.

Since then, Shia has been plagiarising apologies made by the likes of Tiger Woods, Kanye West and Mark Zuckerberg. He even quoted Eric Cantona during the Nymphomaniac press conference (and ahead of paperbaggate) saying, 'when the seagulls follow the trawler, it's because they think sardines will be thrown into the sea,' before walking out.

Now Shia is back in Los Angeles and putting on an art installation, which is funnily enough, called #IAMSORRY.

Held at 7354 Beverly Boulevard until Sunday, patrons have said they are asked to pick a random object from a table, then are taken into a room where Shia sits and wears a paper bag featuring eye holes that look damp from tears.

Many have described Shia's actions over the last few months as the first signs of a public breakdown, which is no strange feat for a former Disney child star.

But it seems that Shia has really done nothing to stem his infamy, but merely pepetuate it and draw more attention to his 'art', which may well have been the whole point all along.
