Big Lots is now the official Hostess outlet store
Hostess shut down its 600 thrift store outlets in the summer of 2013, but the brand announced it is reviving the concept by placing its overstock inventory in Big Lots stores, making it the official outlet retailer of the bakery brand.
'The Thrift Outlets were extremely popular,' said Big Lots CEO David Campisi. 'We are thrilled to team up with this iconic brand and give customers a new destination to find outstanding savings on the products they know and love.'
Among the brands Hostess manufactures and distributes are the much-loved Twinkies, which prompted social media weeping and gnashing of teeth when production was halted in late 2012 due to the company's bankruptcy. Twinkies made a comeback to U.S. shelves four months later.
According to the companies, Big Lots locations will receive a variety of fresh product every week. 'The assortments will be different each week and will vary by store,' said Chief Customer Officer Andy Stein. 'Customers who want the best selection will need to get there early and often. Like we say about the great deals found at Big Lots, when they're gone, they're gone.'
