Philip Seymour Hoffman's funeral draws stars and family to mourn fallen actor

Oscar winner Philip Seymour Hoffman received a private sendoff Friday as reeling family and friends filled a Manhattan church just five days after his shocking death.
Hoffman's casket was carried from the the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola after a lengthy funeral Mass where a lineup of acting A-listers turned out to honor their acclaimed colleague.

Actress Meryl Streep hugged televison newswoman Diane Sawyer as the pallbearers brought Hoffman to a waiting hearse outside the 19th century Park Ave. church.
Among the well-known attendees were Cate Blanchett, Julianne Moore, Bobby Cannavale, Michelle Williams, Spike Lee, Marisa Tomei, Chris Rock, Jerry Stiller, Joaquin Phoenix, John Slattery and Ethan Hawke.

Hoffman's close friend Davd Bar Katz, who discovered the lifeless actor's body with a syringe still in the arm, was obviously distraught as he arrived for the Mass.
The funeral was private, with only those on a guest list allowed admission through the church's massive bronze doors on a frosty February morning.
The church was filled to capacity, with some invitees complaining they were bumped from getting inside.
A backstage employee from the Hoffman-starring Broadway production of 'Death of a Salesman' said he was told to come back to a planned public memorial in March.

The service was slated for a noon start on the day after many of Hoffman's closest friends - along with his girlfriend and their three kids - turned out for an emotional wake at the Frank E. Campbell Funeral Home.
Mimi O'Donnell, who had a 15-year relationship with Hoffman, cradled their 5-year-old daughter Willa's head as they entered the church.
Hoffman, 46, was found dead last Sunday in a Greenwich Village apartment rife with the signs of drug addiction: about 20 hypodermic needles and 70 baggies of heroin.
The star of 'Capote' and 'The Big Lebowski' had a needle in his arm when a friend found his lifeless body inside the fourth-floor apartment.

Hoffman, widely considered one of the premier actors of his generation, earned three other Academy Award nominations for his cinematic work.
Among the grim-faced mourners at Thursday's Manhattan wake were stars Stiller, Billy Crudup, Williams, Phoenix and Amy Adams.

Police Commissioner Bill Bratton said the search for the dealer who sold Hoffman the lethal dose was continuing - although he noted it was not a criminal investigation.
'We're dealing with a death,' Bratton said Friday. 'It is, I would emphasize, not a narcotics investigation ... but rather the investigation of a death.'

Jazz musician Robert Vineburg was busted Tuesday in connection with the probe. Vineberg, 57, remained behind bars on Rikers Island.
