The Houston Rockets have agreed to send veteran point guard Aaron Brooks to the Denver Nuggets in exchange for forward Jordan Hamilton, a person with knowledge of the deal confirmed to USA TODAY Sports. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the deal had not yet been announced.

The Nuggets need backcourt help, as Nate Robinson is out for the rest of the season and Ty Lawson for another week or two. The Nuggets also traded point guard Andre Miller on Thursday. Brooks, 29, averaged 7.0 points and 1.4 assists a game for the Rockets but is only five seasons removed from averaging 19.6 points a game in 2009-10.

Brooks, who has been traded at the deadline of each of his past three NBA seasons (but spent 2011-12 in China), has the option to decline the trade.

Hamilton gives the Rockets another shooting threat. The 23-year-old has struggled with consistency but averaged 6.8 points and 3.4 rebounds a game for the Nuggets. His contract expires after this season.
