UCLA rallies to defeat Colorado, 92
UCLA BASKETBALL
UCLA stayed above the muddle in the Pac-12 Conference basketball race.
The Bruins got another strong second-half push, with guard Kyle Anderson directing traffic, in a 92-74 victory over Colorado at Pauley Pavilion on Thursday.
The Bruins (19-5, 8-3 Pac-12) started the day in second place, one-half game ahead of three teams. They remained in lockstep with first-place Arizona.
Anderson had 22 points, 11 assists and seven rebounds. With the Bruins leading, 78-71, he pushed them to the finish with eight points in the last six minutes.
UCLA had five players in double figures: Anderson, Jordan Adams (17 points), Bryce Alford (14), Travis Wear (13) and Norman Powell (10).
Alford provided a spark with 13 minutes left and the Bruins leading, 55-53. He scored 12 points on four three-pointers during a 21-13 run.
UCLA shot 56.5% and made 63% of its shots in the second half.
If the Bruins, and their fans, thought first-half doldrums were left at the Galen Center on Sunday night, the first half Thursday was a reminder what lethargic play can produce.
UCLA led, 15-8, five mintues into the game, then watched Colorado play basketball. When the Buffaloes were done with a 24-6 run, the Bruins were down, 33-21.
UCLA, at it did during Sunday's game against USC, showed little defensive motivation. The Buffaloes shot 45.9%.
Askia Booker had nine points and seven assists in the first half. He finished with 16 points and 12 assists.
Josh Scott had 13 first-half points, the last two on a dunk at the buzzer to give the Buffaloes a 40-36 halftime lead. Scott led Colorado with 20 points.
The Bruins stayed close thanks to Anderson, who had nine points and six assists by halftime.
He had four points and two assists during the Bruins' 15-7 run to close the half.
