Flickr Apps Add Instagram

Heads up, mobile shutterbugs. Yahoo's photo-sharing service Flickr on Thursday released new versions of its iOS and Android apps, bringing a host of new features and improvements.

Most notably, version 3.0 takes a page from Instagram, letting you capture and edit up to 30 seconds of HD video, and apply the same filters available for photos, directly in the app. You can then customize your video by adding different segments of footage, and if you don't want to include a certain part you can remove it with a single tap.

'At the heart of our Flickr apps is a powerful mobile camera that makes it easy to take and share amazing photos in high resolution,' Flickr Vice President Bernardo Hernandez wrote in a blog post Thursday.

On the iPhone and iPod touch there are 14 live filters, which let you see how a photo will look even before you snap it. The revamped camera also boasts some advanced editing tools to help you adjust the color balance, levels, and exposure of your photos.

Besides that, the apps now feature an 'intelligent search engine' that is speedier than ever. Previously, it could take up to three seconds to search for something, but now you'll get your results in just 30 milliseconds.

There's also a new Auto Sync feature, which will automatically upload all the photos from your phone directly to your Flickr account. Flickr offers 1TB of storage for free, which is enough room for more than 500,000 photos.

Plus, if you have a lot of photos in your account, it should now be easier to keep them in order. The apps can understand the date, time, and location of your photos, as well as any featured scenes and objects, to help organize your snaps for you.

Flickr also redesigned the photo stream to make it easier to share your photos to Twitter, Tumblr, and Facebook.

'Flickr has always been about celebrating beautiful photography,' Hernandez wrote. 'Browse top trending photos within our Explore feature and discover new photographers to follow and places to go right from your phone.'

The revamped apps are rolling out today, and will be available free in Google Play and the App Store. For more, check out the video below.
