Heart Bleed Bug Test: Virus Patch Released, Google, Yahoo Make 'Repairs' to ...
The newest computer bug called 'Heartbleed' is causing serious web security problems with its ability to retrieve passwords and other confidential account information running on OpenSSL. The virus is extremely dangerous as it can not only steal current login details and credit card numbers but also risk future online transactions. Websites like Yahoo and Google said that they have already made repairs to services that were recently affected. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and PayPal remain safe from future threats but users are still encouraged to change and assign passwords that are not used on other sites.

A Heart Bleed bug test can be found by clicking here to check whether websites have been given the 'all-clear.' You should be sure a website has taken the necessary protective measures before proceeeding with updating your passwords on that website.
While security researchers have already developed a patch to prevent the virus spread, Codenomicon CEO David Chartier said that there are still reasons to be concerned. 'I don't think anyone that had been using this technology is in a position to definitively say they weren't compromised,' he said.
Security experts are worried that users' online accounts have long been compromised as Heartbleed went live undetected some two years ago.
'If passwords or SSL keys were compromised before the patch was in place, it may take a considerable amount of effort and money to re-establish a nominal security level,' said Nathaniel Couper-Noles, principal security consultant at Neohapsis.
Yahoo advised its users to 'rotate passwords' and include a mobile number to act as failsafe. Other security measures include a small, closed padlock on servers running on SSL/TSL encryption technology. A trouble shooting software was released April 7.
About two-thirds of the world's web servers are under the OpenSSL encryption. This hosts activities like e-mail, chats, online banking, file storage, and virtual private networks that individuals use to connect to corporate organizations. The U.S. government also placed additional security protocol following a breach of surveillance documents from a former NSA contractor.
