Johnny Depp's 'Transcendence' Suffers At US Box Office As 'Heaven Is For Real ...

By Shaun Kitchener On April 19, 2014

Johnny Depp's new movie Transcendence is struggling at the US box office on its opening weekend, according to latest estimates.

The sci-fi has, according to Deadline, bowed at a disappointing No4 in the rankings, on course to total between $12m and $12.4m for the three-day period.

Conversely, Heaven Is For Real - a faith-based movie fronted by Greg Kinnear - is surpassing all expectations, and looks on track to chart at No3 and top $26m for the five-day period since its midweek release, and $19.6m for the 3-day weekend.

It's the highest new release of the week, and - despite not being at No1 - it does have the highest per-screen average, which is looking at around $8,000.

The top two positions are occupied by the same movies as last week; with Captain America: The Winter Solider securing a third week in pole position. Rio 2 follows in second.

Transcendence is out in the UK on April 25, while Heaven Is For Real - which also stars Kelly Reilly and Thomas Haden Church - follows on May 9.

On our shores, the big new release this weekend is The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
