Masters 2014: Matt Kuchar shoots 68 to chase down leaders

Matt Kuchar is trying to do what only one other golfer has ever been able to do at the Masters -- win the Masters after trailing by more than six shots after 36 holes.

Kuchar, who trailed second-round leader Bubba Watson by seven coming in to the third round, used a wicked wedge game on Saturday to shoot a strong 68 that included three straight birdies on the second nine.

He's now at 4 under for the tournament.

'I'm playing some good, steady golf,' said Kuchar to CBS' Bill Macatee. 'This course it's so crucial to hit your approaches in the right spots and I found myself in a lot of the right spots.'

Nothing new here for Kuchar, though. He was three back after 54 holes in 2013 and four back in 2012. He'll be somewhere in that range when the dust settles on Saturday, maybe closer.

Kuchar's last two finishes at Augusta -- 3rd and 8th -- mirror what Adam Scott did in his two starts before last year's win.

And on Sunday that's what Kuchar will try to do for the first time, win a major.

He's been close before, posting five top 10s in the last four years but never been able to seal the deal. And you know how much it would mean to this Georgia Tech grad to wear green on Sunday evening.

Earlier this week Kuchar said he was giddy to step between the ropes and that he wanted that to continue for four more days.

'I was pretty excited to come and tee it up Thursday morning. I think guys certainly get awfully excited when they have a chance Sunday afternoon as well.'
