Microsoft's 'Age of Empires' Goes Mobile This Summer
Almost a year after Microsoft confirmed a mobile version of its console- and PC-based Age of Empires, the game is gearing up to hit iOS, Android, and Windows Phone app stores this summer.
Players can pre-register now for access to exclusive updates about AoE: World Domination, and the latest news about the series.
Redmond announced its game expansion in June, when it signed a licensing agreement with KLab Inc. to develop the title. At the time, the company downplayed reports that other Microsoft video games are also being developed for mobile use.
'There are no further announcements beyond Age of Empires at this time,' Larry Hyrb, director of programming for the Xbox Live network, wrote in a summer blog post.
AoE: World Domination promises to put the power of the world 'within your grasp' by deploying advanced battle tactics 'with simple and intuitive touch gestures.'
Recreate history with King Arthur and the Celts, the Vikings' Cnut the Great, Joan of Arc and the Franks, or Attila the Hun, as well as more than 100 legendary heroes. Starting this summer, you can challenge other mobile players or team up with friends to conquer the world together.
Microsoft and the Age of Empires team was on hand at the PAX East gaming conference this weekend in Boston, where fans had a chance to see a sneak peek of the mobile game, take their picture with King Arthur or Joan of Arc, and get the latest World Domination developments.
A specific launch date has not yet been revealed.
