NHL: Dallas Stars make Western Conference play

Dallas Stars booked their first play-off appearance since 2008 with a 3-0 triumph over St Louis Blues on Friday.
The Stars got a goal and an assist from defenseman Trevor Daley to become the 16th and final team to book a place in the post season; the result eliminated the Phoenix Coyotes from contention.
Dallas will be the second wild card team in the Western Conference. Daley is the only member of their current roster who was will the team when they last made the play-offs six years ago.
Elsewhere, Tampa Bay Lightning claimed a 3-2 win over Columbus Blue Jackets thanks to a pair of goals from defenseman Eric Brewer.
Jay Beagle also found the net twice as Washington Capitals beat Chicago Blackhawks 4-0, meaning goaltender Jaroslav Halak posted his first shutout since joining the franchise.
Winnipeg Jets got the better of Calgary Flames by a 5-3 scoreline while Marty Havlat scored his sixth career hat-trick as San Jose Sharks crushed Colorado Avalanche 5-1.
Detroit Red Wings lost 2-1 against Carolina Hurricanes while New York Islanders defeated New Jersey Devils 3-2 after a shootout.
