Northwestern vs. Nebraska goes prime time
It figures that the Big Ten Network would select the Oct. 18 Nebraska-Northwestern game for prime time. Wild stuff happens when those teams collide.
The Wildcats stunned Nebraska in Lincoln when the teams met for the first time as Big Ten foes in 2011. Nebraska rallied for a 29-28 victory in Evanston in i2012 and shocked the visiting Wildcats last season by winning on a Hail Mary.
Plus it will be Homecoming in Evanston, so the pro-purple crowd should be extra fired-up for the 6:30 p.m. CT kickoff.
That's one of six games selected by BTN for prime time this fall. The others: Penn State-Rutgers (7 p.m.) on Sept. 13; Cincinnati-Ohio State (5 p.m.) and Illinois-Nebraska (8 p.m.) on Sept. 27; Michigan-Rutgers (6 p.m.) on Oct. 4; and Michigan State-Maryland (7 p.m.) on Nov. 15.
It's unusual for the Big Ten to have a prime-time game in November, but there is no league policy prohibiting it.
BTN President Mark Silverman said that this fall's prime-time slate 'reflects the expanded geography and nationwide appeal of the conference and the network. It gives us our best prime-time lineup ever.'
Also, a source reiterated to the Tribune the plan for Northwestern's Aug. 30 season opener against Cal. Barring a late switch, the game will kick off at 2:30 p.m. CT in Evanston.
