Tennessee men's basketball coach Cuonzo Martin has left the program to take the same position at California, according to multiple reports.

The hire was first reported by ESPN.com.

The successor to Bruce Pearl, Martin spent three years at Tennessee and compiled a 63-41 record. This past season, Martin's Vols won 24 games and reached the Sweet 16.

In the weeks since the NCAA tournament, it appeared Martin was interested in leaving Knoxville. He was considered a candidate for the Marquette job, which ultimately went to Duke assistant coach Steve Wojciechowski.

At Cal, Martin will succeed Mike Montgomery, 67, who announced his retirement on March 31 after six years with the Bears.
