William Hurt has backed out from playing Gregg Allman in 'Midnight Rider,' the film adaptation of Allman's memoir 'My Cross To Bear,' according to Deadline.com.
Hurt's exit casts a shadow over the future of the Randall Miller-directed film. In February, camera assistant Sarah Jones was hit by a train and killed while filming on a train trestle in Wayne County, GA.
A source close to the production reportedly told Deadline that filmmakers 'were already looking to recast some roles,' including the Gregg Allman character.
Miller wanted to restart preproduction on the movie in a few weeks in Los Angeles. Meanwhile, investigation continues over who is to blame for the Feb. 20 20 accident. Hurt was among the actors on the bridge where the crew was filming a dream sequence involving a mattress on the tracks.
News of the production moving forward has spawned a flurry of tweets and a 'I REFUSE to work on Midnight Rider' Facebook page, according to Deadline.
