Jason Biggs caused uproar on Twitter with an insensitive tweet about the doomed Malaysian Airline plane
Jason Biggs has apologised for tweeting an insensitive message about Thursday's doomed Malaysia Airlines flight.
The American Pie star was slammed on social media after joking about flight MH17 shortly after it was shot down over the eastern Ukraine border, killing all 295 on board.
'Anyone wanna buy my Malaysian Airlines frequent flier miles?' he wrote.
After spending the day defending his remarks and attacking his critics, he finally backed down.
'Hey all- ok, so- I am deleting my previous tweets. People were offended, and that was not my intent. Sorry to those of you that were,' Jason wrote his 448,000 followers.
'This is obviously a horrible tragedy, and everyone-including myself- is sad and angry about it. Sending positive thoughts to the victims and their families. P.S. No one is making me send these tweets - I simply understand that my comments might have come off as insensitive and ill-timed. For that, I apologize,' he added.
Jason's remarks came after an assault over social media from critics accusing him of lacking a conscience.
'You'd laugh if your kids died in a plane crash?' one Twitter user asked.
Others were less subtle.
'Go f**k a pie you piece of s**t. You're such an attention seeking f**king w***e,' another seethed.
Jason didn't take the comments lying down. Before deleting his tweets, the actor called his detractors 'losers' and insisted those objecting to his attempt at humour had 'issues'.
'Hey all you 'too soon' a**holes- it's a f**king joke. You don't have to think it's funny, or even be on my twitter page at all,' he wrote.
'Truly- you losers are literally trying to find s**t to get angry about. Channel your issues elsewhere... The idea that I wouldnt have any empathy 4 the victims or their families because I make a joke is absolutely ridiculous. U know that, right?' he added, musing once again, 'It's saddest for the victims and their families, obviously. But Malaysia Airlines is apparently a GREAT airline. Gonna be tough to recover.'
