Water

NBC MIAMI

A massive water-main break is flooding the UCLA campus and surrounding Sunset Boulevard, stranding people and vehicles as gallons of water continues to shoot up to an estimated 100-feet in the air.

The astonishing water levels has evacuated some areas and closed a portion of the roadway since its rupture just before 4 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The break, just north of the UCLA campus, led to three motorists requiring rescue from parking structures, according to the fire department's Brian Humphrey.

Humphrey warned that the water levels are just powerful enough to sweep people off their feet.

'People are standing in the water almost out of a sense of amusement,' he told KTLA. 'It doesn't take much more than an ankle depth of water to sweep somebody into harm's way, so we're hoping to get UCLA campus officials to move people here away ... from this very dramatic cascade of water.'

Sunset Blvd, between Higard and Veteran, is currently closed due to the main break.
