Recap: St. Louis vs. Los Angeles

St. Louis, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - Matt Holliday smacked a two-run homer among his two hits and three RBI as the St. Louis Cardinals edged the Los Angeles Dodgers, 3-2, in the opener of a three-game set.


Kolten Wong went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored, while Lance Lynn (11-6) struck out nine and surrendered two runs on four hits and four walks over six- plus innings for the Cardinals, who have won six of their last eight games.


Trevor Rosenthal fired a 1-2-3 ninth to notch his 29th save of the season.


Dan Haren (8-7) allowed three runs on eight hits and two walks over 4 2/3 frames for Los Angeles, which had won three of its last four contests heading into the All-Star break.


The Cardinals led 3-0 after six innings before the Dodgers trimmed the deficit to a run following a two-run seventh.


Back-to-back doubles by Juan Uribe and A.J. Ellis to lead off the seventh plated a run and knocked Lynn out of the game. Seth Maness came on and Ellis advanced to third following a Justin Turner groundout. He scored on a Maness breaking pitch in the dirt to make it 3-2.


Adrian Gonzalez singled and Matt Kemp walked with one away in the eighth against Pat Neshek, but the submarine pitcher struck out Andre Ethier looking and got Uribe to pop out and end the threat.


St. Louis opened the scoring with a run in the first and added two more in the fifth to jump out to its three-run cushion.


Back-to-back one-out doubles by Wong and Holliday in the opening frame plated the game's first run.


Wong hit a one-out single in the fifth and Holliday followed by belting his two-run shot onto the grassy knoll in center and make it 3-0.

The Miami Marlins' Nathan Eovaldi pitched so badly Friday that his career ERA of 12.27 against the San Francisco Giants went up.
