iPad Air 2 image leak reveals A8X chip and Touch ID sensor
IMAGES OF COMPONENTS allegedly belonging to the iPad Air 2 have surfaced online, all but confirming the tablet's upgraded processor and Touch ID sensor.
The leaked images come via Taiwanese website Apple.club.tw, and appear to confirm rumours surrounding Apple's next-generation flagship tablet.
One of the images is of the full circuit board, revealing that the iPad Air 2 will come with an A8X chip, an upgrade from the A7 chip found inside the original iPad Air.
Apple has yet formally to announce this chip, but speculation suggests that it will offer improved GPU performance and will come with 2GB RAM, double the amount of its predecessor.
The image leak also appears to confirm rumours that the iPad Air 2 will be the first iPad to come with a Touch ID sensor, showing the cable that attaches to the fingerprint sensor.
A gold ring surrounding this sensor also appears to confirm rumours that the iPad Air 2 will be made available in gold.
Apple has yet to comment on this latest speculation, but all is likely to be revealed at the firm's 16 October event at its Cupertino campus.
This event is also expected to see the launch of a new iPad Mini tablet, which will reportedly feature a Touch ID sensor and upgraded internals.
There's also talk that Apple will launch Mac OS X Yosemite at the event on Thursday, alongside its first Retina display iMac.
