Javier Bardem In Talks To Play The Villain In 'Pirates Of The Caribbean 5′
Javier Bardem is said to be in early talks to play the lead villain in the fifth 'Pirates of the Caribbean' movie, 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.' Christoph Waltz was rumored for the role at one point, but Bardem currently has the offer and is reportedly in discussions to sign on. Bardem's wife, Penelope Cruz, appeared in the previous film 'Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.'
If his deal makes, Javier Bardem will play Captain Brand, a ghost bent on revenge against Johnny Depp's Capt. Jack Sparrow, who he holds responsible for the murder of his brother. Geoffrey Rush is expected to reprise his role as Barbossa, who could team up with Captain Brand. Bardem previously starred alongside Depp in 'Before Night Falls.'
Other returning cast members for 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales' will likely include Ian McShane and Stephen Graham, and there have been rumors that Orlando Bloom might be making a return appearance as Will Turner. Set for July 7th, 2017, 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales' will be directed by Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg (Kon-Tiki). 'Catch Me If You Can' scribe Jeff Nathanson has penned the screenplay.
The 'Pirates of the Caribbean' franchise has grossed more than $3.7 billion worldwide with the 2011 'Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides' grossing more than $1 billion worldwide.
