Nick Roach (concussion) to IR

ALAMEDA, Calif. -- The Oakland Raiders' worst fears for starting middle linebacker Nick Roach came to fruition Wednesday when they put him on the injured reserve, ending his season.

Roach suffered a concussion on Aug. 22 in the preseason at Green Bay. He was never cleared to practice fully. Roach went from playing every defensive snap last season (his first with Oakland after signing with free agent) to never playing a snap this season.

The Raiders' defense, already thin, has been riddled by injuries. Starting safety Tyvon Branch (foot), linebacker Kaluka Maiava (hamstring) andTaiwan Jones (cornerback) are all also on the injured reserve.

The Raiders signed Jamar Chaney to replace Roach. Chaney is in his fifth season. He started for the Eagles 2011. The Raiders worked out Chaney on Tuesday along with Tim Dobbins and Steve Beauharnais.

Miles Burris will continue to start for Roach. The Raiders hope to get weakside starting linebacker Sio Moore back soon from an ankle injury that has kept him out of the past two games.

In other Raiders news, linebacker Sio Moore participated at practice for the first time since injuring his ankle in Week 2. He has missed the past two games.
