Some reports even claim that the actor, whose latest film The Imitation Game is out on November 14, has secretly married Hunter, exchanging vows in front of family and friends in an intimate morning ceremony at a hidden location.

The 36-year-old actress has a number of film and TV credits to her name, including roles in Torchwood and Midsomer Murders, and a small part in the 2004 film Vanity Fair. She and Cumberbatch met on the set of Susan Luciani's film Burlesque Fairytales, which was released in 2009.

Hunter, who has a degree in Modern Langauges from Oxford University, is better known for her work as a theatre director than for her acting career. In 2012 she directed the North American tour of the experimental play 69° South, which dramatized the voyage of Antarctic explorer Ernest Shackleton through the use of performers on stilts and marionette puppets. She also received the 2007 Samuel Beckett award for writing and directing her play, The Terrific Electric, at the Barbican Centre.

In addition, Hunter has directed a number of opera productions, including a 2011 New York production of Benjamin Britten's opera The Rape of Lucretia, and a 2011 African tour of Mozart's The Magic Flute, for the arts charity Opera for Change.
