Billy Cosby Memes Backfire After Internet Focuses on Rape Allegations

Talk about bad timing!

Bill Cosby's social media team attempted to create a fun meme-generator, but unfortunately released it into the world at a very poor time. Cosby's twitter shared a link for the generator and tweeted, 'Go ahead. Meme me!'

And he was definitely meme'd plenty of times, but instead of the fun and happy captions his camp was hoping for, the Internet focused on the recent rape allegations made against him during Hannibal Buress' comedy show.

'He gets on TV, 'Pull your pants up, black people. I was on TV in the '80s. I can talk down to you because I had a successful sitcom,'' the comedian said during a recent stand-up at Philadelphia's Trocadero Theatre. 'Yeah, but you raped women, Bill Cosby, so turn the crazy down a couple notches.'

Here are a few examples of what the wonderful worldwide web came up with:

Others opted not to participate in the meme-making, but still expressed their feelings on the debacle via Twitter.

a lot of people in social media roles don't understand how the internet really works. #CosbyMeme

The grossest part of #CosbyMeme is that Bill & Co. clearly think he's innocent 13 accusations later. Money & power convince ppl of anything.

The PR person that came up with #CosbyMeme doesn't understand Twitter. Or what it means to have over a dozen rape allegations against you.

Seems like the #Cosbymeme went left real quick. Thin line between shaming Bill Cosby and just getting rape jokes off.

Buress got a chance to clarify his Cosby commentary (and address the reaction to it) on Howard Stern's Sirius XM radio show Tuesday. 'It's a weird thing,' he said of the public response to his remarks. 'Somebody filmed my show in Philly, [but] I've been doing that bit off and on for six months, talking about the Cosby situation. But it's just information that's out there, you know?'

'[It] wasn't my intention to make it part of a big discussion,' Buress told the shock jock. 'It was just something that I was doing at that venue right there.'

Reps for Cosby have yet to respond to E! News' request for comment regarding Buress' remarks.
