Coaches Poll: Mississippi State remains on top after Arkansas scare
Dan Mullen will hope for more big wins to celebrate in the weeks to come. (USATSI) After holding on to a seven-point win over Arkansas Saturday, Mississippi State also held onto the No. 1 spot in the Coaches Poll Top 25 released Sunday.
The Bulldogs received 40 first-place votes to No. 2 Florida State's 22, with its overall margin increasing slightly from 20 points to 25. Mississippi State and the Seminoles remain the only two undefeated teams in the Power 5 conferences.
Auburn, Alabama and Oregon rounded out the top 5. The Tigers outlasted Ole Miss in Oxford for their first SEC road win, leapfrogging the idle Crimson Tide. The Ducks finally moved past head-to-head victim Michigan State by routing Stanford. The Rebels slipped from No. 9 to No. 13, while the Spartans moved down one spot to No. 6.
TCU, Notre Dame, Kansas State and Baylor rounded out the top 10.
Georgia was one the week's biggest faller after its upset loss to Florida, slipping from No. 8 to No. 17. Previous No. 19 East Carolina was the only team to drop out of the poll, following its 20-10 loss to Temple.
