The duo's self-titled debut album went straight to number one
Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl has described Royal Blood's ascent to the top of the UK album charts as 'so encouraging'.
The Brighton duo's self-titled debut LP was released in August and went straight to number one as the highest-selling rock debut since Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds' release in 2011. Speaking to NME for a major feature in this week's issue, which is currently on newsstands and available digitally, Grohl recalled watching footage of the band performing at this year's Glastonbury festival. 'I saw some live footage of them, and I was so excited to see a band that was heavy, had riffs, had songs, and could really perform, and an audience that was genuinely excited to watch them play,' said Grohl. 'And then someone tells me that the album went to number one, and for another guy with a guitar to see another guy with a guitar getting the number one record, it's so encouraging. Not that I think that rock 'n' roll is the only type of music, but in this day and age it's good to see it fucking show it's face now and then. And it's a good record, I'm excited about that.' Foo Fighters are the current favourites to headline next year's Glastonbury after Grohl himself has told NME that he is interested in the slot. Fleetwood Mac remain among the list of potential headliners despite Mick Fleetwood stating outright that the band will definitely not be performing at next year's festival. 'There's a real gamble on for Foo Fighters to play at Glastonbury, but at this stage it looks like a combination of hopeful fans and those following the rumour-mill. Perhaps given the weight of money we've seen, there may be some truth in the rumours,' said William Hill spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke yesterday (November 7) in a statement.
