Taylor Swift knows you think she's 'insane.' In the music video for 'Blank Space,' which Swift released on Monday via Vevo and Yahoo, she plays on every single horrible girlfriend stereotype. She gets jealous and drops a phone in the pool. She wrecks his car with a golf club. She sets his clothes on fire. She paints his portrait and then takes a knife to it. In short, she makes fun of everything the media has accused her of doing over the past few years.
'Blank Space,' the second single from '1989,' was immediately singled out as one of the album's best tracks upon its release. In an interview with Yahoo, Swift said she wasn't sure if people would get the humor behind lyrics like, 'Got a long list of ex-lovers/ They'll tell you I'm insane.' ' You'll have people who completely get the joke and they're saying, 'Oh, look, she's completely taken back the narrative, and she's singing from the perspective of the person the media paints her to be,'' She told Yahoo. 'And then other people will be listening to it on the radio and thinking, 'I knew it! I knew she was crazy!'... It's probably the wildest video I've done.'
We'd agree, mostly because at one point she stands on a horse and then takes a butcher's knife to a cake in bed. Well played, Taylor.
