Buffalo travels to Chicago to take on the Blackhawks on Saturday.
The Chicago Blackhawks will be playing the second game of a back-to-back set on Saturday night but they'll be taking on an opponent they really should outclass. On Friday night they got a nice test from an up and coming New York Islanders club but they still managed to walk out of the United Center with a victory. Nikolai Khabibulin didn't have to do too much in goal, facing just 19 shots and stopping 17 of them, and Michal Handzus scored the game winning goal in the second period to lift the Blackhawks to a 3-2 win. Joakim Nordstrom scored his first NHL goal to give Chicago a 1-0 lead. Jonathan Toews also scored in the first period as this game was tied 2-2 after one before settling down the rest of the way. Corey Crawford should be back in goal for this one against a struggling Buffalo Sabres squad.
Sitting at 0-4-1 this season has gotten off to the exact type of start the Sabres were hoping to avoid. They can't score consistently, they can't keep the puck out of their net, and when you look up and down this roster it just doesn't look like a very good hockey club. They've been outscored 11-4 their last three games and on Thursday night put in a pretty putrid performance in front of the home crowd against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Thomas Vanek scored his second goal of the season in the second period but it was the only Buffalo goal of the night as they watched Columbus score three times in the opening period on their way to a 4-1 defeat. Ryan Miller made 29 saves but he just doesn't have much help at all in front of him right now. If the Sabres don't come ready to play on Saturday night this one could get ugly.
