Watch Hugh Jackman confront James McAvoy in first X
Wolverine goes back in time to try and persuade a young Charles Xavier to change the course of history and avert a life-changing war
X-Men: Days of Future Past has released its first full-length trailer, which sees Charles Xavier ask Wolverine to go back in time and visit his younger self.
Patrick Stewart tells Hugh Jackman, 'You're going to have to do for me what I once did for you.'
Xavier then asks Logan to travel back and find Michael Fassbender's Magneto, so the pair can visit James McAvoy's younger version of Xavier.
'Logan, I was a very different man,' says the present day Xavier. 'Lead me, guide me, be patient with me.
'End this war before it ever begins.'
Stewart's Xavier can then be seen pleading with McAvoy, 'please - we need you to hope again.'
Knife to see you, to see you knife
The new film, which serves as a sequel to both to X-Men: The Last Stand and First Class, sees the mutants fight for mankind's survival.
The original trilogy's cast characters will team up with their younger selves in a bid to change the past and prevent a terrible future.
Judging by the glass shattering, explosions and people running maniacally around, this addition to the franchise looks to be an action-packed return to form.
Jennifer Lawrence, Ellen Page, Anna Paquin, Halle Berry and Nicholas Hoult are also returning for the film.
* X-Men: Days of Future Past will be released on 22 May 2014
