Facebook earnings blow past expectations, shares jump

Facebook reported earnings and revenue that beat market expectations on Wednesday and shares rose 16 percent after hours.
The company posted third-quarter earnings of 25 cents per share. Revenue increased to $2.02 billion from $1.26 billion a year ago.
Analysts had expected the social network to report earnings excluding items of 19 cents a share on $1.91 billion in revenue, according to a consensus estimate from Thomson Reuters.
