Martin Scorsese's 'The Wolf of Wall Street' officially gets Christmas Day release
Martin Scorsese's latest film, The Wolf of Wall Street, has officially been slotted for release on Dec. 25, Christmas Day.
Paramount confirmed the news Tuesday, reports Deadline. The film, which stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Jordan Belfort, a man who took Wall Street by storm in the 1980s, had been originally slated for release on Nov. 15, but last month, there were reports that editing on the film would not be finished in time. The studio had been hoping Scorsese could trim the film under its original three-hour run time.
Then, the studio cleared its Christmas Day schedule but pushing Jack Ryan: Shadow Hunter to Jan. 17, 2014. That allowed it to reschedule Wolf for Christmas Day.
It also helps that Sony's Oscar hopeful, American Hustle, is not opening on Christmas Day any longer. That film will now be released on Dec. 18, the date that George Clooney's The Monuments Men was supposed to come out. The Monuments Men will now not be out until February, as Clooney knew he wouldn't be able to make the deadline.
Wolf co-stars Jonah Hill and Matthew McConaughey. It is Scorsese's first film since the Oscar-winning Hugo, which came out in 2011.
