Cupertino Countdown – What's Coming from Apple on October 22

We're now just a few days away from what's set to be Apple's biggest product launch party of the year. So with the lucrative holiday sales frenzy set to kick off any day now, just what has Apple got in store for us in its final product unveiling of the year?

Retina iPad Mini 2

Taking center stage for many will of course be the iPad Mini 2, which this time is expected to boast a stunning HD Retina display panel. With the first-generation iPad Mini having been largely praised for everything apart from its low-resolution screen, chances are the iPad Mini 2 will be even more widely celebrated if the Retina panel makes an appearance. Analysts on the whole have warned not to expect Apple to fit the Mini 2 with its latest 64-bit A7 processor, but on the plus side this should help keep the price of the thing down - hopefully to no more than the $300 mark.

iPad 5

The fifth-generation iPad could represent the most significant step in a new direction since the first iPad hit the market in early 2010. This time around, the iPad 5 is expected to follow the same overall design language of the iPad Mini, with a smaller overall form factor, lighter weight and smaller bezel, though maintaining the same screen size as the iPad 4. In addition, the inclusion of Apple's 64-bit A7 processor is likely to increase the appeal of the iPad 5 to corporate markets quite enormously.

Haswell MacBook Pro

And finally on the hardware front at least, the 2013 MacBook Pro is expected to make its long-overdue arrival complete with Intel's Haswell CPU at its core. Following in the footsteps of the 2014 MacBook Air, the new Pro is expected to up the ante in every department including battery life, overall performance, screen quality and connectivity. The 2013 Pro may also debut the latest Mac OS X Mavericks which like the device itself is long overdue.

In terms of release ate estimates, the general consensus points to a November 1 launch for all three of the above device, though this has yet to be confirmed by Apple.
