Matt Schaub injury: Texans QB hopes to be 'ready to go' vs. Chiefs

Posted: Tuesday, October 15, 2013, 2:47 PM

Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub doesn't believe that his ankle injury is as bad as he originally thought it was. During a radio appearance on SportsRadio 610 AM, Schaub says he hopes to be ready for next week's game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

'It popped and must've come out and come back in place ... It could have been drastically worse. I'm going to do everything I can to be ready to go,' said Schaub, who was knocked out of Sunday's loss to the St. Louis Rams with the injury. He received injections and treatment for the injury on Monday.

Head coach Gary Kubiak hasn't decided on a starter for next Sunday, preferring to wait until practices later in the week. He is preparing both T.J. Yates and Case Keenum in case Schaub can't go. Yates replaced Schaub in the blowout loss, completing 12-of-17 passes for 98 yards and two interceptions.

Schaub has been facing a firestorm from Texans fans for his play this season. There were audible cheers from the hometown crowd when he went down on Sunday, which drew harsh criticism from teammates. Schaub voiced his disapproval of the behavior, saying 'there's no place for that in this game. There just really isn't.'
